I sometimes assume I'm a missions-minded leader if our church gives a good proportion of the offerings to missions, but I need to be better about encouraging the guys out there on the field. If done by the senior pastor, and done from his heart, people get a renewed joy in their own salvation, and a sense of fulfillment and purpose in praying sincerely for the salvation of those beyond the reach (so far) or our gallant missionaries. This produces growth, like the growth that happens when a believer begins to tithe. God desires that the Unreached Peoples be saved. He wants to involve us. Most of what God does, he achieves through us. I believe he is waiting for a significant number of his children to pray for those who have not entered the kingdom because they have not heard the good news of the kingdom. I need to reach thousands of pastors with this message. Matthew 24:14 tells us, when all the Peoples have heard the gospel, then the end will come. The one thing that prevents people in the pews from feeling passionate about mission is, they don't engage. They're not involved because they don't know the global situation. The most powerful involvement for the church comes at a price, but it's not monetary. The pastor has to be willing to give mission a small fraction of the Sunday service time. He needs to do two simple things. 1. Teach about mission, and 2. Lead his people in sincere prayer either for one of the 10,000 people groups who have no gospel penetration, or for all the unreached peoples considered together. Pastors, I will do the research for you at zero cost. I'll send you a weekly email having a few bullet points of motivational information. Use some of them to teach your flock about the one people group. Then lead them in prayer, or have them pray in small group. The unreached people I select for each Sunday is always the one featured by Global Prayer Digest for that very Sunday. So your and your congregation will be praying along with 70,000 other intercessors. Prayer can be brief, but it should be earnest. Much more on my website: www.prayforup.com OR... 760-721-8840. God commanded us to go into all the world and preach the gospel unto every creature. Another way would be to raise up missionaries in your own church and send them to the place that God would direct. Bringing video and pictures to the congregation on the work that your church is involved in helps and especially if you take some of them with you to the area that you support will change their lives forever. As a missionary responding to your post, "The Pastor's Role in Missions", I would suggest adding the following to your list... Promote missions in your church. Pray publically for your missionaries. Preach about missions. Promote missions giving by being an example yourself. Invite missionaries to come speak to your church. Lead a group from your church on a missions trip overseas. Give generously and sacrificially to missions as a church. The interest and awareness of missions will never rise beyond the personal example given by those leading the church.
