I think that dating is fine in the context of seeking out your future spouse...but dating for the sole purpose of solving the problem with porn and lust!? I don't think so! I think that guys should be seeking to address this issue before they consider marriage as it can be incredibly harmful in a married relationship, or any relationship for that matter. When guys are single they should be using this as an opportune time to grow themselves closer to the Lord and seeking to find their contentment in Christ alone rather than in pornography...trusting that God will provide the right partner in His timing. Habits created when single will definitely worm their ugly head up in any relationship that develops later on the line. I disagree Brad. No longer do we serve as a beacon or light on a hilltop, rather, we're truly the salt which has lost savor and is in the process of being trampled under feet. We've created religious agendas that serve the purpose of Church growth instead of individual spiritual growth. In turn, we are reaping a whirlwind of rhetorically polished religious cronies who serve their master the pastor instead of the Master. Christians - we're all brothers and sisters in One family of faith so stop abusing each other. Serve one another in love and kindness knowing that the least of these are equally important in the eyes of Christ. The concept of Christian servitude has been supplanted by Church service by guilt trip. Wake up - Christ came to give life and give it with abundance! When scripture says we are no longer slaves to sin but to righteousness it is within the context of a persons faith which operates through the power of love - nothing more or less! Jesus warned of these last days saying love would grow cold because lawlessness increased. This problem is only going to get worse as time goes on - we are living the final hour of the greatest point in human history. The Day of the Lord draws near - Are you Ready!? I'll take this a step further; the lack of spirituality is a symptom itself of a much greater problem with the modern day concept of Church and what being a Christian is about. Don't get me wrong - I don't condone sin in ANY form. I simply believe we're misreading what the real problem is because porn is not it. The answer to this problem is bring it out of the closet and DO SOMETHING to help those in bondage! Beth, I don't know where you are but let me ask for your forgiveness on behalf of your husband. Sister, there is a body of believers out there somewhere who will help you through this. Ask your Father where they are and then seek them out. I'm 48 and am tired of the struggle. I'm ready to give up. Adulterers don't go to heaven. I wonder now, if I've blown my chance to go to heaven. At some point, God is going to give up on me and "give me over" to my lust (Romans 1). I feel that no matter how hard I try, there is no hope for me. I'm so very tired of asking for forgiveness. I'm a hypocrite, liar, adulterer and no one knows except me and God. I'm not the man people think I am. And I'm not who I had hoped I would be. I can't tell my wife, my pastor, my friends or anyone else. I'm trapped. I'm sad. I'm tired. I wouldn't blame God at all if He took my life. At least I'd be out of my misery. The statistic I heard one time even rises for those young men who are studying to become a minister. My suggestion is this for anyone who reads this blogg that is inactive and very out dated, with the last response almost a year ago.... ....Help christian men find a healthy way of dating and getting to know christian women. I found in my travels that most churches discourage dating as a way of courtship, but with the rise of competing alternatives out there, it is no wonder christian men have this struggle. They are given no choices to meet women and have a healthy, godly relationship with a woman leading to marraige. They are told they must "wait" for the right woman, but in reality God speaks of "he who finds a wife, finds a good thing." With man having choices and free will given to him, it needs to be a supportive choice for men to date in dating relationships, and not told to not date. Then they have no social outlet for building relationships and end up "alone" or "lonely" because of a church that recomended the wrong path. My husband is addicted to porn and it has destroyed me...completely. My hope, my faith, my belief in grace is completely gone. I've decided to turn away from the organized church. The church used to be where I found some comfort from the horror porn brings into my world. Now I'm beginning to think there is no where to hide. These stastics are so sad. Depending on your background those numbers either shock you or don't surprise you at all. It really is a crisis we have on our hands. I agree with Stephen that we need to confront this head on! Check out what Freedom Begins Here (www.freedombeginshere.org) is doing to raise awareness and equip church leaders with resources to help themselves as well as their churches. www. Jesus had many different people in his company of "friends". Many that society saw as undesirables. He showed us by example. Perhaps we need to stop seeing this as a forest's problem and start looking at the trees in our own back yards. Only when we first see the plank in our own eye can we assist our brother and sister with theirs. Getting into this stuff is never because a person is just looking for something to mess them up or make their lives unmanageable. Normally it is for escape, to numb, boredom, or exposure by outside forces. I think maybe on my knees is the best place for me to be about this.
