Say Something Nice
The Christian Post reports on Baptists in South Carolina declaring the first Sunday in June “Say Something Nice Day.”
Frankly, it sounds like a good idea. First Baptist Church of Charleston and the Charleston Baptist Association in South Carolina are encouraging churches and individuals to avoid unpleasant words for at least one day.
Ideally, Christians shouldn’t need a “Say Something Nice Day.” Humanly speaking, it’s a good reminder.
As we rely on Christ’s power to let no corrupt talk come out of our mouths, let’s remember that not everything that needs to be said will always seem nice. Occasionally, the truth hurts. On the other hand, not everything seemingly nice is of eternal value.
Christ’s crucifixion wasn’t very nice, but the effects of His death extend even to us. By Him we are called sons of God. We’re redeemed, justified. That’s good news, but it wasn’t very nice getting there.
Take the encouragement humbly, but not blindly. Let Christ control your speech every day.
