Liberty Student, Explosives, and Falwell’s Funeral
Mark David Uhl, a freshman Religion/Biblical Studies Major at Liberty University, was arrested Monday night, the evening before Jerry Falwell’s funeral, for possessing (in his car) and planning to detonate five or six homemade explosives. His family notified the police of his plans. Authorities are not sure whom Uhl was targeting, but Uhl claims his intent was “to stop protesters from disrupting Falwell’s funeral.”
Uhl has a MySpace profile (cf. his blog) where he identifies himself as a Soldier of Christ. He says this about his name:
I am Mark David Uhl. Mark: means Mighty Warrior. David: means Passionate Lover. Uhl: is originated from a German word meaning Loyal. My name means “Loyal protector of whom he loves.”
It is also noteworthy that Uhl is in the Army ROTC program. He also wrote this in a blog post last fall:
Fear of Death
America, “If there is one thing we should fear it is fear itself.” “If we don’t go there they will come here.” Do you want freedom? Do you care for your fellow man? Do you wish they had the chances you do? “If you go you may die but if you don’t go your children may not live.”
Christians, fear of death, fear of death. The fear of death shows you don’t believe. The bible says in Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” If you truly believe and you have given your life to God you know “You cannot die.”
America, where are our leaders. Christians, where are our leaders. Uncle Sam needs soldiers to fight so our children may live free. God needs soldiers to fight so his children may live free.
Are you afraid???
I’m not.
SEND ME!!!
It appears that this passionate young man was trying to protect the reputation and honor of Jerry Falwell.
