Al Gore, An Inconvenient Truth, and Matthew 7:1-5
Is Al Gore an illustration of Matthew 7:1–5? Some think so.
Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.
Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).
. . .
Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.
Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.
Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk the walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.
In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.
Of course, he does have a large house, so one would expect that his numbers would be higher. The real question is whether living in a house that consumes that much electricity and natural gas is consistent with the message that Gore so adamantly preaches.

Please also note that Al Gore is a participate in Carbon Offet’s and he is in the process of retro fitting his house to make it more energy efficient. Plus, they failed to address that Gore’s home is powered by Green Switch. What that mean that he has a net zero impact.
I would wonder if your own house of Worship could stand up to the same analysis. If you temple to the lord Green? What about asking what each of us are doing instead of what Al Gore is doing to use this as a lesson in personal responsibility.
I have to laught since you are now practicing the art of politics. Which I know well my friends and here I am preaching to about obeying the word of the lord.
Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
Now I forgive you for mistaking the facts.
James 2:13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

Thank you for the additional information. If you’ll notice, the purpose of this site is to inform pastors of recent news, events, resources, etc. Often we report news stories with which we do not agree. The point is to let pastors know what is being said and give them the opportunity to evaluate it. Nowhere did I accuse Gore of being some wicked sinner. I said some think so. I reported the story. That’s what we do. And nowhere did I say churches and pastors could not also do a better job caring for the environment. I didn’t mistake any facts. You assume far too much by a simple post alerting pastors to what some are saying.

Here is some recent news.
The Gores used about 191,000 kilowatt hours in 2006, according to bills reviewed by The Associated Press. The typical Nashville household uses about 15,600 kilowatt-hours per year.
The group said that Gore used nearly 221,000 kilowatt hours last year and that his average monthly electric bill was $1,359. Johnson said his group got its figures from Nashville Electric Service.
But company spokeswoman Laurie Parker said the utility never got a request from the policy center and never gave it any information.
